Advanced Digital Information Corporation
Acquired by Quantum in 2006, ADIC (https://www.quantum.com/serviceandsupport/index.aspx), is a leading provider of backup, recovery and archive solutions. ADIC is a proven global expert in data protection and big data management, providing specialized storage solutions for physical, virtual and cloud environments.
Project Type: Oracle Product Configurator, Optimization modeling and Implementation

Problem Statement
At the time of the consulting engagement ADIC needed a means of optimizing storage solutions based on the following constraints:
client’s physical location and size in which to install their high-speed and high capacity storage racks
different types of tape back-up mediums (phyisical size)
capacity of back-up medium
speed of back-up medium
Solution
Through the use of combinatorial mathemathics modeling techniques, we extended the capabilities of Oracle’s Configurator product in order to build a configuration model that allowed ADIC to optimize the configurations of large capacity data tape back-up storage systems for their clients. The implemented algorithm allowed ADIC to input various combinations of tape media, back-up speeds, and size in order to arrive at an optimized configuration that accounted for the client’s physical space and specific back-up needs.
Results
This implementation resulted in the enhancement of Oracle’s configurator product. The delivered functionality was subsequently implemented in a major new release of the software product, which resulted in millions of dollars in additional revenue for the Oracle Corporation.
